Premier League Double

The newly promoted sides can build on the confidence brought by recent wins. They face two teams in decline.

A small statistical quirk of last week’s Premier League results was all the promoted sides winning. Nothing amazing about a coincidence, but they were all good value for their wins.

QPR host Aston Villa in the Super Sunday game and at 11/8 (Ladbrokes) they are cracking value to record back to back wins. The last minute signings of Anton Ferdinand, Luke Young and Shaun Wright-Phillips have added quality to the squad with Joey Barton the best of the lot. QPR are yet to concede a goal since the influx of new players and comprehensively outplayed Wolves last weekend.

After a summer of upheaval Aston Villa sit a ‘comfortable’ sixth in the Premier League, a position that is false. The fixture list could not have been kinder to Alex McLeish, games against Fulham, Blackburn, Wolves, Everton and Newcastle is hardly daunting. One win from those games is a poor return. With the quality that has left Villa Park it won’t take many bad results before the natives get restless. On current form I cannot see them taking anything form Loftus Road.

Norwich have enjoyed a reasonable start to life in the Premier League but the recent win at Bolton will have done their confidence a power of good. At 8/5 (William Hill) manager Paul Lambert will have earmarked a home game against Sunderland as a winnable match.

A four-nil victory over Stoke alleviated some pressure on opposing manager Steve Bruce but the win flattered his side. Stoke were lacklustre after a midweek trip to the Ukraine and everything fell kindly for Sunderland. Deep-rooted problems still exist, Bruce signed 12 players in the summer, with at least six considered regulars starters. The revolving door at the Stadium Of Light is becoming a concern, it is difficult to develop a cohesive team with so many changes in personnel. They are vulnerable to a well drilled Norwich side, especially playing away from home.

Combine QPR and Norwich in a win double and get odds of 4.85/1 with William Hill. Great value for two home wins.
