Premier League Double Tip

It's a big weekend in the ongoing fight for Premier League survival.

There are some big games affecting the relegation scrap in the Premier League on Saturday and I’m backing QPR and Aston Villa to record priceless victories at best combined odds of 7/1 with PaddyPower.

If we start at Loftus Road, I just can’t see the Hoops failing to build on their 2-1 victory over Southampton last weekend. Harry Redknapp knows how far momentum can take you at this stage of the season and a further three points is imperative against Sunderland. The Black Cats are winless in five (D2 L3) and their away form is symptomatic of a team in the bottom seven generally.

In another six-pointer, Reading entertain Aston Villa and I just fear that the bubble has finally burst for the hosts. The Royals had put together a freakishly good run a month or so ago before the 3-0 home defeat to Wigan on 23 February looked pivotal. The Latics really bossed the encounter and, after a further 3-1 defeat to Everton, Reading are 19th again and struggling for form.

One position and one point above them is Villa, but I think their performances are improving and that will soon translate into results. A single defensive error was the difference between them and champions Man City on Monday night. It was a predominantly heartening display by a side which has finally come to terms with its plight and seems to be pulling together.

Prior to that, Lambert’s youngsters matched Everton at Goodison, then beat West Ham at home before nearly holding Arsenal at the Emirates. Those were all commendable efforts, and this ‘easier’ fixture could reap huge rewards at a crucial stage.
