Next Manager to Leave Post Tip

Abramovich: Known to have an itchy trigger finger

With McCarthy gone at Wolves, we may not have to wait long for the next Premier League managerial casualty.

With Mick McCarty ousted at Molineux, the ‘Next Manager to Leave his Post’ market has been refreshed for the Premier League. The bookies have made Harry Redknapp 5/2 (BetVictor) favourite on the assumption he will soon be offered, and will quickly accept the England job. But there must be a strong possibility that the Spurs boss will determine to at least see out the season at White Hart Lane. With that in mind I think there is a better option, with real value.

Andre Villas-Boas is a best price 4/1 (WilliamHill) in the betting despite coming all the way in to evens with Ladbrokes today. The Chelsea manager’s position appears to be hanging by a thread after the Blues were convincingly beaten 2-0 at Goodison Park on Saturday. That defeat knocked the Londoners down to fifth spot in the table and out of the Champions League positions.

Roman Abramovich, it is fair to say, is known for his patience. The Chelsea supremo reportedly sacked Carlo Ancelotti before the Italian had even boarded the team bus after the final game of last season - that after another defeat at Everton. And that after the team finished second in the Premier League final standings.

If Ancelotti was dismissed after his performance, having won the domestic double in his first season, we can only imagine that AVB is already on borrowed time. The Portuguese felt the presence of the Russian billionaire at the training ground last week and Abramovich has hauled the players and manager in on their day off after their latest poor showing on Merseyside.

Two things could lead Abramovich to pull the trigger sooner rather than later. Chelsea face a tricky Champions League tie against Napoli - the first leg is next week - and defeat in that would surely seal the deal. On the other hand, if the Blues fail to quickly climb back into the top four spots in the Premier League then the owner is liable to take decisive action anyway.

Abramovich has sacked six managers at Stamford Bridge and rarely has the team been in such a lowly position come February as it is now. Grab the 4/1 (WilliamHill) on Andre Villas-Boas leaving next while you still can because there is money coming on him hard and fast.
