Man United Drift to 12/5 After Vidic Blow

Vidic was injured in the defeat to Basle

Sir Alex Ferguson's nightmare week just got worse after his star defender was ruled out for the season with knee ligament damage.

This may prove to a pivotal few days in Manchester United’s season after Wednesday’s Champions League exit was followed by news on Friday that captain Nemanja Vidic is out for the season. The reigning Premier League champions have drifted in the betting to a best price of 12/5 with Sportingbet. The same firm have consequently shortened the title odds on all the other main contenders; they make Man City 11/20, Chelsea 11/1 and Spurs 14/1.

The centre back twisted his knee in the first half of the 2-1 defeat to Basle. Ferguson didn’t try to hide his disappointment. “It is bad news. He will be a loss. I thought (the injury) was a bad one when I saw it,” he added. With a mounting injury list now to contend with, the January transfer window can’t come soon enough at Old Trafford.
