League Cup: Huddersfield v Bradford Tip

Last year's shock finalists showed they were no flash in the pan by also earning promotion to League One in May.

2013 has already proved to be an iconic year in the history of Bradford City after first reaching the final of the League Cup before returning to Wembley in May to secure promotion to League One.

Now Phil Parkinson’s boys are back in knockout action as they head to Huddersfield Town to see if they can start another cup adventure. It’s a big Yorkshire derby that will whet the appetite of both sets of fans, but with last year’s memories to inspire, Bradford look long at best odds of 3/1 to win with Boylesports.

Last August, the Bantams went to Watford, one of the best teams in the Championship, and won 2-1. Success soon followed away to Wigan, at home to Arsenal and then over two legs against Aston Villa.

Town may take this match seriously but they could be set for a campaign of struggle in the Championship. Last term they ultimately avoided relegation by just four points after a second half of the season slump that saw them fade; they had been top six after 16 matches but ended 19th.

Whereas Huddersfield began 2013-14 with defeat at Forest on Saturday, Bradford started League One life with a promising 2-2 draw at Bristol City. The visitors’ tails will still be up and the Bantams have sold out their ticket allocation as they sense further cup glory could materialise here.
