League Cup Hopefuls

O'Neill: 2 time winner with Leicester

We take a look at some possible outsiders and long shots for the Capital One Cup as the top sides enter the draw.

It’s the best chance of a trophy for many teams, especially with the big guns liable to field weakened line-ups. Birmingham City won the trophy in 2011 and Cardiff City reached the final in 2012, so who can upset the established order this time?

All odds given are best available on the market and to win the Capital One Cup.

Everton (12/1 Bet365):

David Moyes just needs a trophy to complete a wonderful stint at Goodison Park. The Toffees are playing as well as anyone in the Premier League so far and will see this as an opportunity. However, an away trip to Leeds is a tougher test than you’d want in Round 3.

Sunderland (20/1 Betfred):

Martin O’Neill has a superb record in this competition having led Leicester City to glory in 1997 and 2000 with another trip to the final in 1999. The former Celtic boss has made the Black Cats resolute and the should overcome MK Dons on Tuesday.

Middlesbrough (100/1 Coral):

If a Championship side is going to go far again this season then the Riversiders are as good a bet as any at long odds. The 2004 champions have made a solid start to the campaign and should have too much for Preston at Deepdale. If the draw’s kind from there, you never know.
