Both Manchester sides slipped up when least expected as the turn of the year brought some drama.
The race for the title really hotted up after a weekend of spectacular upsets ultimately meant that very little changed. Manchester City would now be a lot shorter than a best price of 4/5 (PaddyPower) had they not succumbed to a 93rd minute Sunderland strike and a 1-0 defeat on New Year’s Day.
That shock came just a day after Blackburn seemingly defied all logic by grabbing a 3-2 victory at Old Trafford. Man Utd briefly drifted out to 9/4 as a consequence, but after City failed to capitalise, the champions are back in to 13/8 (Betfred).
Tottenham were disappointed to concede in the final six minutes and draw 1-1 with Swansea. Remarkably though, this can now be seen as a point gained in light of the other scorelines. Spurs are 14/1 (Boylesports), six points off the top with a game in hand.
