Jol off the Dole

Jol takes up the Craven Cottage hotseat.

The former Spurs boss returns to the Premier League with Fulham.

Martin Jol has been named as the new Fulham manager following Mark Hughes’s departure last week. The former Tottenham and Ajax boss has signed a two-year contract with the option to extend to a third season. The Dutchman took Spurs to the cusp of Champions League qualification, finishing fifth two times running. However, a poor start to the next campaign saw him leave White Hart Lane in October 2007. In his first season at Ajax his team scored 106 goals in 34 league games, including 50 in the last 14.

Skybet are offering 20/1 on Fulham finishing inside the top six in 2011-12. They go 10/1 on the Cottagers winning a trophy; qualification for the Europa League via the Fairplay table gives them an extra target. Under Roy Hodgson, the club made the final of that competition in 2010. If Jol can better that then he would have every chance of being named the Player League Manager of the season - currently a 25/1 shot.
