England v Scotland Tip

The biggest clash between the 'Auld Enemies' for a quarter of a century. It's hard to imagine it being a boring, routine night for the favourites.

The team sheets were very different back in 2017, but when these old rivals last met it was a thriller. England went ahead in the 70th minute only for Leigh Griffiths to grab a late brace with goals in the 87th and 90th minutes for Scotland. The drama wasn’t over; Harry Kane salvaged a World Cup qualifying point in the 93rd minute.

The more iconic fixture came in 1996 of course, and nobody needs reminding how close the Tartan Army were to drawing level before David Seaman (or Uri Gellar) intervened.

The point is that talk of England walking this one seems cavalier. The Scots actually played pretty well against the Czechs, managing 19 shots on goal. I could see them taking a shock lead before quality tells in the end. England are 21/2 with BetVictor to win from behind.

This Gareth Southgate team have a mistake in them but they may be at their best when the mission is clear. Falling behind falls into that category. It’s certainly the best way to make serious money backing England, if it happens.
