Gerrard Favourite To Be Euro Captain

Terry captaincy under threat

Reports suggest John Terry is to be stripped of the England captaincy, Steven Gerrard is favourite to take the armband.

The BBC is reporting that John Terry will be stood down as England captain after a canvassing of the FA board members. The bookmakers aren’t entirely convinced and still offer 9/4 (Paddy Power) that Terry is captain for the first game at Euro 2012.

Steven Gerrard is the 2/1 favourite (BetVictor) to replace the Chelsea skipper but his recent injury record wouldn’t make him a certain starter at the Euros. Scott Parker is 5/1 (Sportingbet) with his starting position more assured.

Rio Ferdinand would be a controversial choice to regain the armband at 14/1 (Paddy Power) and Fabio Capello might instead go with the less contentious choice of Joe Hart at 25/1 (Sportingbet). Baring injury, the Manchester City goalkeeper is a certain starter and comes without any off-field baggage.
