An Achilles injury at the wrong time could lead Hodgson to make a tough omission this week.
The revelation from Harry Redknapp that Scott Parker’s Achilles injury could be serious enough to see him miss Euro 2012 is yet to cause a stir in the squad bettng with William Hill still offering 12/1 on the midfield enforcer not making the party.
Parker is undergoing an injection on Monday with the outcome very much in the balance according to his club manager. Redknapp said: “If the injection doesn’t clear up he wouldn’t be fit for England. He would have to have an op and then it would be long term,” he added.
With Hodgson set to announce his squad on Wednesday, a calculated decision may need to be made over the next 48 hours.
The 31-year-old has missed Spurs’ last four fixtures so there must now be significant concern for his international hopes. 12/1 is a reflection of the high regard Parker is held in these days, but makes little allowance for his current prognosis.
