England Euro 2012 Squad: Tip 1

Bent: Raring to go.

A certainty to make the plane before his injury. The Aston Villa striker looks to be fit again.

Before he got injured, Darren Bent was considered a certainty to make England’s Euro 2012 squad. The Aston Villa striker had scored three goals in his last five starts for his country when he ruptured ankle ligaments at the end of February.

But after three months on the sidelines, the 28-year-old thinks he is close to a return. “I feel I’ll be ready for the Euros…If I can get in the squad and play in the two friendlies that is going to be a massive help.”

There is no doubt that Bent is on the manager’s radar after the England physio Gary Lewin twice made trips to visit the former Sunderland hotshot.

With Wayne Rooney suspended for the opening two games of the tournament, Roy Hodgson will surely be desperate to take a forward who has shown a knack for finding the net on the international stage. None of the other contenders having done better than Darren Bent in the last two years. At 7/2 to make the 23-man squad on Wednesday, BetVictor still provide the value.
