England Euro 2012 Squad Betting

On Wednesday, Roy Hodgson is set to announce his England squad for Euro 2012. With two friendlies scheduled before the start of the tournament there is still time for further changes, with UEFA’s deadline not until 29 May.

The bookmakers are betting on who will make the cut. If we look at the 23 players with the shortest odds then this would be the bookmakers’ England squad:

The list is only hypothetical, but as you can see there is at least one goalkeeping position up for grabs. David Stockdale is next in line in the betting at 15/8 (Stan James) with Scott Carson also 15/8 (Paddy Power). There has been a big move for John Ruddy in the last 24 hours, into 5/2 (Ladbrokes) from 8/1.

Other candidates Ben Foster 3/1 (Betfred) and Paul Robinson 25/1 (Betfred) would need to be tempted out of international retirement.

The striking department is also a little light, especially with Wayne Rooney suspended for the first two games. Daniel Sturridge (10/11 Bet365), Jermain Defoe (5/6 Betfred) and Peter Crouch (11/10 Betfred) are next in the betting with Grant Holt still a relative outsider at 10/1 with Ladbrokes.
