The doom-mongering surrounding Roy Hodgson is absurd; he has delivered wins over Brazil and Italy whilst losing only 1 of 16 fixtures.
There’s a disproportionate amount of doom and gloom surrounding an England football team that has only lost one of 16 matches under Roy Hodgson. Considering that solitary defeat was a friendly, away to Sweden, after two Ibrahimovic goals in the last six minutes, some perspective really is needed.
It may seem unlikely, but England are definitely over-priced at best odds of 11/2 (Bet365) to win at the Maracana on Sunday evening. Brazil have only won once in their last five outings, against Bolivia, and they haven’t beaten a team regarded as a footballing heavyweight since 2009.
The hosts are ranked an embarrassing 19th in the FIFA world rankings (their lowest ever) and boss Scolari is already feeling the heat after returning to the fold just last November. Furthermore, England beat the South Americans as recently as February.
Best odds of 6/10 (StanJames) on the home win, based on statistics and form, looks like madness.
