Bale 8/13 to be named Player of the Year

The man of the moment has come from nowhere to become strong favourite for the big personal award.

Gareth Bale’s staggering run of form for Tottenham Hotspur has seen him slashed to a best price of just 8/13 (PaddyPower) to be named PFA Player of the Year. The Welsh wizard was way out at 33/1 with BetVictor as recently as 28 January.

The jolt to the market has been dramatic as a result of the 23-year-old scoring nine goals in his last seven games, many of them spectacular goal-of-the-month contenders as Spurs have raced into third.

Until very recently it was Robin Van Persie who was heavily odds-on to win the coveted award but the Manchester United star can now be picked up at 15/8 with Skybet.

It appears to be a two-horse race with Luis Suarez next in the betting, way out at 40/1 with Sportingbet. Juan Mata is 50/1 (Skybet) while Swansea ace Michu is 66/1 (Sportingbet). But Bale is now very much the man to beat.
