Lexus Tip: First Lieutenant

Never run a bad race over 3m+ and strength of his Hennessy third is overlooked in the betting.

The Hennessy Gold Cup was one of the strongest 3m+ chases of the season so far and the form is well represented in the Lexus Chase (3.00 Leopardstown).

Tidal Bay finished second behind Bobs Worth at Newbury and is 5/1 (Stan James) in the betting. However First Lieutenant looks rather forgotten at 14/1 (Bet365) despite finishing only 5 lengths further back.

First Lieutenant has progressed well from the novices’ rank this season, running Kauto Stone close in the JNWine and then finishing only 8.25 lengths behind Bobs Worth in the Hennessy. There are no question marks over his stamina and he’s never run a bad race at 3m+ finishing 2223 on the four occasions he has tackled the trip.

At 14/1 (Bet365) he’s looks good each-way value, with Bet365 paying ¼ odds for a top-3 finish. All other bookmakers are paying 1/5 odds for a top-3 finish.
