Wimbledon Tip: Murray v Gasquet

Murray is improving.

The British number one should progress but his accomplished opponent is unlikely to be dismissed in straight sets.

A lot of pundits are already getting excited about the prospect of a Nadal-Murray semi-final but both men have plenty of work to do yet before that becomes a reality. The British number one faces Richard Gasquet on Monday in the fourth round; a repeat of the 2008 epic at the same stage when Murray recovered from two sets down to win in five. Skybet offer 40/1 on this match taking the exact same course. That has to be unlikely, but the Frenchman is well capable of making life difficult for the Scot on Centre Court again.

The current world number 13 reached the Wimbledon semi-finals in 2007 and his progress has been serene so far this year. Gasquet hasn’t dropped a set to this point and his 6-3 6-2 6-4 win over Simone Bolelli in round three was emphatic. In contrast, Murray has dropped a set in two out of his three matches and that looks like a good bet to happen again on Monday. The world number four has made the semi-finals two years running and rarely lets down his patriotic supporters by losing to a lower ranked opponent. It will be tough, but a Murray win by three sets to one is an enticing punt at 14/5 with sportingbet.
