Wimbledon Tip: Federer V Tsonga

Tsonga is on form.

This should be the toughest test yet for the six-time champion. The Frenchman is on good form.

Roger Federer has progressed to the final eight in largely trouble-free fashion and he is now due a sterner examination of his title credentials. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is just the man to provide it. Federer dropped the opening set in his third round clash with Mikhail Youzhny and it would be a surprise if the Frenchman made the Swiss sweat any less. The number 12 seed showed his credentials by beating number 7 seed David Ferrer in straight sets on Monday. It should have come as little surprise to those who witnessed Tsonga’s fine efforts in reaching the final at Queen’s Club in the run-up to Wimbledon. On those grass courts he beat Rafa Nadal and extended Andy Murray to three sets.

Those results will not have gone unnoticed by Federer and there will be no danger of complacency for a champion who was eliminated unexpectedly by Tomas Berdych at this stage last year. The 16-time Grand Slam winner will arrive on Centre Court ready for a battle and should prevail in the end. A set scoreline of 3-1 to Federer at odds of 11/4 with skybet definitely looks about right.
