Wimbledon Tip: Djokovic V Baghdatis

Djokovic should progress.

The Greek Cypriot should extend the Serb without pulling off an upset.

Novak Djokovic has flattered to deceive at Wimbledon on many occasions in the past, but these days he looks like a different man. His third round opponent is Marcos Baghdatis, a man who in contrast has enjoyed his best Grand Slam performances at the All-England Club. He may be past his peak but a semi-final appearance in 2006 and a quarter-final spot a year later is not to be sniffed at. Indeed, the Serbian has a best of two semis himself here, so there is little to choose between the pair, on these courts at least.

The bookmakers regard Djokovic as a certainty to win. Given his 2011 record in which he has lost only once, that is hardly surprising, or to be disputed. However, the Serb is under pressure to perform this year more than ever, not least with this event providing another chance to become the number one player in the world. Beyond that, he would surely just love to win the Wimbledon title regardless. His first match against a seeded opponent will be a test, and the underdog is likely to give him a tough spell to contend with at some point. With that in mind, the 11/4 that skybet offer on Baghdatis winning a set looks like a decent value bet.
