Wimbledon Profile: Roger Federer

Federer has won more Grand Slams than any other man.

The seven-time champion isn't coming to Centre Court to make up the numbers. He may find extra motivation if he feels written off.

Best Odds: 10/1 (PaddyPower)
Seed: 3
Previous Best at SW19: Winner (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2012)
Grand Slam Titles: 17

Wimbledon Record:
The defending champion returns to Centre Court ranked only fourth in the betting but you can be sure he will be eyeing a record-breaking 8th title regardless. The 31-year-old ruled the roost every year from 2003-2007 and last summer he proved there is still life in the old dog yet. The Swiss star toppled Djokovic in four semi-final sets before beating Murray by the same margin in the final to draw level with Pete Sampras’ Wimbledon tally.

Form:
Federer has found himself largely in the shadow of Nadal and Djokovic so far in 2013 having not won a tournament right up until his success at the Gerry Webber Open in Halle just last week. The fact that success came as soon as he switched to grass tells its own story. This year’s Grand Slams will have been a particular disappointment for the 17-time major winner having exited Australia at the semis and the French Open in the quarters.

Prospects:
It almost seems crazy that the most successful male tennis player in the modern era, the defending champion, can arrive at SW19 as only fourth favourite. And yet, it does make sense given that he may have to play and overcome all the other big guns to triumph. The fact is that Fed’s 2012 Centre Court success secured his only Slam title since January 2010; indeed he has only made 2 of the past 13 Slam finals. Can he roll back the years again?
