20th Jun 2013 | Wimbledon

Wimbledon Profile: Petra Kvitova

The only female player, other than Serena, to lift this coveted title since 2008.

Best Odds: 25/1 (Bet365)
Seed: 8
Previous Best at SW19: Winner (2011)
Grand Slam Titles: 1

Wimbledon Record:
A contender a couple of times and a winner two years ago. The Czech first showed her suitability for grass when she stormed past Azarenka and Wozniacki en route to the semi-finals in 2010. A year later she was to go all the way to the title. Kvitova was seeded 8, as she is this year, and again beat Azarenka before seeing off Sharapova in straight sets in the final. In 2012 she was only halted by Serena in the last eight.

Form:
Pretty awful. The 23-year-old was dumped out of the Australian Open in round two by Britain’s Laura Robson and things didn’t get any better on clay. A poor spring culminated in a third round exit at Roland Garros to world number 54 Jamie Hampton. Even grass is yet to lift Kvitova’s spirits after an inauspicious second round exit in Eastbourne recently.

Prospects:
Based on form the 2011 champion has next to no chance, but her grass-court prowess merits a second look. If she suddenly finds her groove then few players can match her power on this surface. However, a woeful lack of consistency means she looks a better bet to go out in Week 1 than to go the distance.
