Wimbledon Profile: David Ferrer

Regarded as one of the most tenacious men on tour, the 31-year-old has been handed a kind draw this time.

Best odds: 80/1 (Boylesports)
Seed: 4
Previous Best at SW19: QF (2012)
Grand Slam Titles: 0

Wimbledon Record:
Improving. Although someone with a game that isn’t particularly suited to grass, Ferrer has still had his moments in south-west London. The Spaniard reached the cusp of the last eight in 2010, losing a five-setter to Soderling, and the following year Tsonga proved a little too strong in the round of 16. But the 31-year-old broke his quarter-final duck last summer when Roddick and Del Potro were beaten before Murray prevailed in a tough four sets.

Form:
Has had a very tidy 2013 up till now, punctuated by excellent showings in the two Grand Slams to date. Ferrer claimed two regular tour victories back in January and February before losing his next four finals. The most recent of those was defeat to Nadal in the French Open as he finished runner-up in a major for the first time. There was also a semi-final run in Australia.

Prospects:
In a tennis era supposedly dominated by four men, this gritty baseliner deserves enormous credit for reaching six Grand Slam semi-finals, the most recent of which he finally won at Roland Garros against his old rival Tsonga. The interesting thing about Ferrer’s prospects is the draw. By being seeded fourth there is a real chance for the clay-court specialist to reach a first semi-final at SW19.
