Nadal Battered out of Wimbledon

Nadal out in round two

Centre Court was treated to one of the biggest shocks in the history of Grand Slam tennis on Thursday night.

World number two Rafa Nadal has crashed out of Wimbledon after an astonishing performance from unknown debutant Lukas Rosol. The Czech, ranked 100, hit ground-strokes of rare brutality to cause one of the biggest upsets in the history of Grand Slam tennis.

Following on from his 6-7 (11-9) 6-4 6-4 2-6 6-4 victory, Rosol was cut to 20/1 (Betfred) to go all the way having been as long as 2500/1 earlier in the evening with one firm.

The ramifications in the men’s draw are widely felt with all the leading candidates inevitably cut with Nadal ousted. Djokovic is now evens (StanJames), Federer 11/4 (Bluesquare) with Andy Murray at 13/2 (Bluesquare).

All the big names remain in the women’s draw with Sharapova still favourite at 2/1 (Bet365), Serena Williams is 3/1 (bodog) with defending champion Kvitova 6/1 (bodog) and Azarenka 8/1 with the same firm.
