Kanepi v Robson Tip

Surprising to see the Estonian made favourite based on one previous good run in this tournament.

I’’m happy to back Laura Robson to continue her fine Wimbledon run and am slightly surprised to see her as a 6/5 (Bet365) underdog against Kaia Kanepi on Monday.

The Estonian (8/11 PaddyPower) is the lower ranked player so I can only assume she has gained favouritism due to being a former quarter-finalist at SW19 back in 2010. The 28-year-old is hardly a colossus on grass though having been knocked in rounds one or two on all her other five visits to Wimbledon, prior to this campaign.

Admittedly this is unchartered territory for Robson, but at the tender age of 19 she is already looking like a future top-10 player. It was hard work for the Brit in the last round but she showed tremendous character to fight back from a set down, which she lost 6-1, to record victory over Marina Erakovic.

That was really Robson’s first tough test having even brushed past 10th seed Maria Kirilenko 6-3 6-4. Kanepi looked strong in round three but overall has found it more of a struggle to reach the second week.

I see no reason why home support can’t carry the local girl at least one step further.
