Wimbledon Tip: Lisicki V Kerber

Lisicki: Beat Sharapova in straight sets

The all-German quarter-final sees the conqueror of Sharapova take on the lady who beat Clijsters.

The bookies have decided that of the two ladies who dished out upsets in the round of 16 on Monday, Angelique Kerber is the one bound for the semi-finals at 4/7 (Boylesports). But I think Sabine Lisicki is the value option at best odds of 13/8 with Betfred.

Admittedly, Kerber has impressed at SW19 up till now having progressed serenely even before her 6-1 6-1 thrashing of Kim Clijsters. But I would argue that the Belgian hasn’t been a significant threat on grass for many years now.

The same surely can’t be said of Maria Sharapova. Yet the world number one was beaten 6-4 6-3 by Lisicki to avenge the semi-final clash between the pair in 2011. We must surely treat the 22-year-old as a real threat on this surface as she stands on the brink of consecutive final four appearances at the All-England Club.

Lisicki has an impressive 76% win rate on grass compared to 62% success for Kerber. The bookies are going with the the higher seed again here, but that approach was made to look foolish in the last round.
