Wimbledon Tip: Kerber v Radwanska 2

It may sound harsh, but the difference between these two may be the German's jitters, which have been very evident lately.

Having already discussed why this first ladies semi-final is so tough to call, I’ll now have a stab at doing just that!

Number eight seed Kerber has been made the favourite (4/6 Ladbrokes). I’m presuming that the bookies have simply decided she has the better game for grass. Admittedly, the German may have more firepower and she made the final at Eastbourne en route to SW19. She has also played in one Grand Slam semi-final before, unlike Radwanska.

Yet in spite of this, I think the Polish number three seed can reach the final (13/10 Boylesports). The 23-year-old has won three titles this season and will adopt a craftier, measured approach with disguised drop shots a familiar part of her repertoire.

In a close match you have to take your chances and I just worry about the mental fortitude of Kerber. We only have to go back to Eatbourne to illustrate the point. The 24-year-old failed to win the title after missing five match points against Tamira Paszek.

You might say this could happen to anyone once. The problem is Kerber also fluffed four match points in her quarter-final at Wimbledon as recently as Tuesday. Although she beat Lisicki in the end, it was a long way from convincing.

Going into the biggest match of her career, the German now has two very recent experiences of choking when the winning line was in sight. She got away with it last time, but against a higher ranked opponent that’s less likely.

Having already predicted a three-set match, I will also take Radwanska to win 2-1 at best odds of 4/1 with Bet365.
