Wimbledon Tip: Djokovic v Federer

Djokovic: The man to beat

Many of the Serbian's best performances in the last two years have been gruelling five-set triumphs.

With some people regarding it as the de facto final, Djokovic against Federer is the match that everyone outside of Britain is waiting for.

The world number one appears to hold all the cards having dropped just one set en route to the semi-finals. But then again he hasn’t faced a single opponent seeded higher than number 28. The battle against the six-time champion will be an entirely different proposition.

Federer stared down the barrel of elimination when two sets down to Benneteau in round three. But the Swiss looked back to something close to his imperious best in beating Youzhny 6-1 6-2 6-2 in the quarter-finals.

This has all the makings of a classic and it could easily take five sets to settle at 5/2 with Skybet. However, I tipped Djokovic before the tournament began and I see no reason to flinch now. The Serbian has won six of the last seven meetings between the rivals and that should help him when the time comes to dig deep.

This will be their first clash on grass but I could see something similar to last year’s US Open semi-final unfolding. The Serbian came back to win in five sets at Flushing Meadows and at 6/1 (StanJames) I can’t grumble at the price for him to win a marathon match again.
