Wimbledon Profile: Serena Williams

Serena may have made headlines for all the wrong reasons recently, but she is back to the peak of her powers on court.

Best Odds: 4/9 (PaddyPower)
Seed: 1
Previous Best at SW19: Winner (2002, 2003, 2009,2010, 2012)
Grand Slam Titles: 16

Wimbledon Record:
In many ways the only surprise is that the 31-year-old hasn’t won more than five titles on Centre Court. However, the latter years of her career look like being her most prolific with success coming on three of the American’s last four visits. In 2012 it was a surprise when Radwanska extended her to three sets in the final, after rain, but it only delayed the inevitable. Williams also fired an astonishing 102 aces in the tournament.

Form:
Majestic. Serena arrives on a career-best 31-match winning streak that includes a demolition job in Paris. The world number one dropped only one set en route to a second French Open title and a 16th Grand Slam triumph overall. The 6-0 6-1 thumping of Sara Errani in the semi-finals was described by Chris Evert as the finest female performance she had ever witnessed on clay.

Prospects:
A huge favourite. It’s hard to bet against a powerhouse on grass who holds a 43-2 record in all matches in 2013. Serena already has six titles in the bag during the calender year and it feels like she can only beat herself. Hope for the others comes from the fact that concentration can still occasionally waiver. It happened in the quarter finals of the Australian Open against Sloan Stephens so anything is possible, just unlikely.
