Robson Puts Herself Firmly On the Map

Robson: Improving fast

The British teenager has followed on from her Olympic success by claiming a big-name scalp in New York.

Laura Robson conjured up the biggest win of her career on Wednesday by beating former world number one Kim Clijsters 7-6 7-6 in the second round of the US Open. Amazingly, the retiring Belgian hadn’t actually lost a singles match at Flushing Meadows since 2003 having won the tournament in each of her three appearances since then.

The task doesn’t get any easier for Robson now though with number nine seed Li Na awaiting in the third round. The 2011 French Open champion is 1/9 (Bluesquare) favourite with Britain’s newest tennis star out at 7/1 with Bet365. The 18-year-old is a 250/1 (Boylesports) shot to go all the way in New York.

Meanwhile, Andy Murray made serene progress to the third round in the men’s draw with a 6-2 6-1 6-3 triumph over Ivan Dodig. The number three seed is currently a best price 17/4 with Sportingbet.
