US Open Tennis: Women's Tip

Kerber your enthusiasm

At long odds this 24-year-old is on the rise and could cause a shock at Flushing Meadows.

Serena Williams is an inevitable and deserving favourite for the US Open, but at nothing longer than evens money (Skybet) she is easily opposed in the betting. The 30-year-old can’t be justified as those odds having not won at Flushing Meadows since 2008; the talent is undeniable but the consistency is these days.

A superb value each-way alternative comes in the form of rising star Angelique Kerber. The German is up to number six in the world and recently defeated Williams four and four at the Cincinnati Masters en route to the final. She has a power game that can trouble anyone on the hard courts in particular.

The 24-year-old has claimed two WTA titles in 2012 and reached the semi-finalists at Wimbledon for the first time. Kerber also made the final four in New York last year and rates as a superb long shot at a best price of 25/1 with Boylesports - third odds will be paid out if Kerber reaches the final.
