US Open: Del Potro v Roddick Tip

America’s biggest tennis star announced last week that he would retire after this US Open, and he has no intention of going out with a whimper. With a hugely partisan crowd behind him, Andy Roddick looks backable to make the last eight at a best price of 16/5 with Boylesports.

Stood in his way is Juan Martin Del Potro. The 2009 champion hasn’t gone deep in a Grand Slam for a while and exited in round three here last year at the hands of Gilles Simon. Although the Argentinian leads the head-to-head 3-1, it was Roddick who won the last meeting, 6-3 6-4 in Memphis in 2011.

The man known as ‘A-Rod’ has looked inspired so far at Flushing Meadows. He demolished the highly rated Bernard Tomic 6-3 6-4 6-0 in round two before overcoming Fabio Fognini in what proved to be a tough four sets.

The 2003 US Open champion may be 30-years-old and almost ready to call it a day, but he has at least one more significant upset left in him and at these odds we should be screaming for him like a native New Yorker.
