Radwanska v Ivanovic Tip

The Pole has won 10 consecutive sets against the Serb but it may go to 3 sets this time.

Sunday should see one of the best matches of the women’s French Open so far when 2008 champion Ana Ivanovic takes on world number four Agnieszka Radwanska.

Radwanska holds a 6-3 advantage in the head-to-heads but her dominance is actually even greater than even that suggests. The Pole has actually won the last six clashes between the pair and has taken the last five without dropping a set.

That makes best odds of 15/8 (Ladbrokes) on Radwanska winning 2-0 here look very tempting, but I actually think she may need a decider to progress this time. A 2-1 victory for the favourite is a 10/3 shot with BetVictor.

The case for the Serb making it close is that she can produce her best tennis at Roland Garros. As well as winning the title in 2008, Ivanovic also made the final the year before that and the last eight in 2005.

In contrast, Radwanska has never been past round four in Paris. That said, last year’s Wimbledon finalist should have the game to suit clay where her mixture of slices and lobs and a keen geometric understanding of the court should prosper. The 24-year-old’s hold over her opponent should just about continue.
