Nadal v Fognini Tip

The defending champion has dropped sets in both matches to date in Paris and is showing signs of feeling the strain.

With Rafa Nadal yet to hit the heights and complaining, his third round opponent Fabio Fognini looks a good bet to take over 9.5 games at odds of 10/11 with PaddyPower.

The seven-time French Open champion complained on Friday that the tournament scheduling is “unfair” and “a joke” after Fognini benefited from a day’s rest while the Spaniard was slogging it out completing round two.

It remains to be seen whether Nadal’s minor tantrum sparks a more ruthless streak but it’s hard not to suspect that his anger was partially triggered by his own sub-optimal performances in Paris so far.

The world number four lost 19 games to Daniel Brands in round one and a further 15 games to Martin Klizan in round two.

Fognini is a cut above both Brands and Klizan and can look better than his world ranking of 29 having reached his career peak in 2013. He could win us this bet even without taking a set.
