Murray 6/1 for US Open after Cincinnati Triumph

Murray won after Djokovic retired

The British number one raised expectations a week ahead of the final Slam of the year.

Andy Murray’s US Open odds have been slashed by most bookmakers after he claimed a seventh Masters title in Cincinnati on Sunday. He is still available at a best price 6/1 with Betfred for the New York tournament that begins on August 29. The British star won the final after opponent Novak Djokovic was forced to retire with a shoulder injury at 6-4 3-0 down. It was only the Serbian’s second defeat of a momentous 2011 - he remains 6/4 favourite for Flushing Meadows with the assumption that he will recover after some rest.

It was an odd triumph for Murray who claimed the silverware without beating any of his big three rivals over a full match. Nadal went out in the quarter finals to Mardy Fish and is longer than normal at 5/1 for the US Open with Totesport. Roger Federer exited at the same stage to Tomas Berdych and he heads to the Big Apple at a best price of 11/2 with Coral.
