Haas v Isner Tip

The American has enjoyed some recent success on US clay and will have his confidence up in Paris.

Having been in the world’s top-10 only a year ago, John Isner looks under-rated at best odds of 13/5 (Sportingbet) to beat Tommy Haas on Saturday.

The big-serving Isner is expected to suffer the after-effects of a gruelling five-set showdown with Ryan Harrison on Friday in which he prevailed 8-6 in the decider having trailed by two sets.

It’s a fair assumption, but one shouldn’t under-estimate the psychological boost that the win will have given the 6ft 9in American. Furthermore, perhaps stamina should be a little less of a concern against veteran Haas (35) who is seven years his senior.

Isner actually leads the head-to-heads 3-2 although they are yet to meet on this surface. But the 28-year-old should not be dismissed on this count either. Isner’s last tournament success came as recently as April, on American clay, in Houston.

He defeated renowned dirt-baller Nicolas Almagro in that final and he could claim another top scalp in round three here.
