Azarenka v Sharapova Tip

There's almost nothing between the world number two and number three but the Belarusian has looked slightly more consistent in Paris.

There should be so little to choose between the combatants in this semi-final that a 3-setter looks like the least we can expect at 11/8 with BetVictor. However, I’ll stick my neck out and back Victoria Azarenka to make her first French Open final, with a 2-1 win, at best odds of 7/2 with Bet365.

Maria Sharapova was so off her game in the first set of her quarter-final that she lost 0-6 to Jelena Jankovic. The bagel came after an incessant stream of unforced errors that handed the advantage to the Serb. If she produces a set anything like that against Azarenka then it’s likely to be more costly.

The Australian Open champion is enjoying a fine 2013 campaign in which she holds a 26-2 record. The Belarusian also holds a 7-5 advantage over Sharapova and that might read even better had she not been forced to retire when a set up during their only meeting on clay in 2011.
