World Cup Outright Tips: South Africa

World Cup Outright Tips: South Africa

Have won and finished third in two northern hemisphere World Cups plus we get our money back as a free bet if England triumph.

Friday sees the start of the eighth Rugby World Cup and looking back over past results home advantage could prove invaluable.

Five of the last seven host nations have reached the final, which gives England a massive chance but at 9/2 (Stan James) the price is prohibitive.

Instead, we can capitalise on the Stan James offer, whereby we get our money back as a free bet up to £25 on all losing outright bets if England win the World Cup.

With this insurance policy in place my attention is drawn to South Africa.

They may have finished last in a truncated Rugby Championship but they were within a converted try of both Australia and New Zealand in narrow defeats.

In their favour, the Springboks will be able to call upon a large ex-pat community for support and their record in northern hemisphere World Cups is good. They finished third in 1999 and won in 2007.

South Africa have an easy group and can rotate their squad because a second place finish might afford them a better draw depending on other results.

Of the leading rugby nations, they look the best value at 13/2 (Stan James).
