York Tips: Staxton
Shock winner on debut at 50/1 but fastest closer in the race by 0.5s and overall time was good for the grade.
Tim Easterby doesn’t have many first time out winners therefore for a horse to score on debut they have to be quite useful.
Not much was expected of Staxton at Haydock because he was sent off at 50/1 but he managed to win and it was no fluke.
In rear after a sluggish start, he quickened impressively off a steady pace to weave through the pack and win. His closing sectional was 0.5s quicker than anything else, (22nd fastest from last 273 runners at track) and he earned an adjusted speed rating of 92.
The second fastest closer in the race has since gone onto win and the form looks strong. He has a penalty to carry for his Haydock win but he could be a smart horse.
