York Tips: Jamaican Bolt

Runner-up in one of the strongest sprint handicaps of 2012 and deserves a second chance after running below par last time out.

Jamaican Bolt has always shaped like a good horse and he can confirm his promise in the 2.30 York.

In his final run last season, he was second to Jack Dexter by a quarter of a length, finishing ahead of the likes of Mass Rally, York Glory, Ajjaadd and Steps - all top sprint handicappers.

We’ve barely seen him in 2013, often a late non-runner because of fast ground, but I can’t shake the impression he made on me that day.

He was slightly disappointing when I backed him last time out at Yarmouth but that turned out to be an odd race. They clocked a very slow time for the grade and the fact the leaders never changed position suggests it was run at a false pace.

Geoff Oldroyd has reached for the blinkers but I think a stronger gallop is what he needs, which he should get in this big field.
