York Tips: Jamaican Bolt

Run good races in testing conditions and the GoingStick reading suggest the ground is softer than the official description.

The going at York this afternoon is slightly puzzling but judging it correctly could determine the outcome of the 2.55.

Most of these horses ran in the 5f sprint during the Dante meeting on ground described as ‘soft’. The GoingStick reading for the home straight was 7.5. Today the GoingStick reading is 7.2 but the official description is ‘good, good to soft in places’. One of them must be wrong.

On this occasion I trust the GoingStick and I am backing a soft ground horse to prevail.

Jamaican Bolt has proven very capable on a soft surface. He finished second to the progressive Jack Dexter on soft ground at Doncaster last year and ran a good race on his seasonal reappearance at the same venue. He travelled like the best horse in the race only to be found out in the sixth furlong.

Back over his optimal trip of 5f and with a good draw in the centre of the track, he should run a good race.
