York Tips: Injam
Getting better with racing and has bottomless reserve of stamina. Earned an adjusted speed rating of 101 last time out.
The Melrose Stakes (2.50 York) is a valuable staying handicap but the best horses (on ratings) haven’t fared that well. Seven of the last ten winners carried less than 9st and Injam looks well-handicapped despite a wide-margin win at Haydock.
Injam’s strength is that he stays all day. Last time at Haydock he made all in desperate ground, going far too quickly given the conditions. Injam’s finishing speed was 91% of his overall speed, much slower than par, indicating an overly strong pace.
Considering the pace was too strong in the conditions an already good speed rating gets a hefty upgrade to 101. That might seem excessive but the form has been franked with the runner-up winning at the start of the month.
Jedd O’Keefe is enjoying a strong summer, sending out 9 winners in June and July and Injam could provide him with a further boost to the coffers.
