York Tip: Medici Time

The extra 89yards will help this hold up sprinter. At his best with Ted Durcan on board.

The 2.00 at York is a sprint run over the unusual distance of 5f 89yards. Bringing together a collection of five and six furlong sprinters, it is hard to understand whom it favours. The way I see it, you need a horse with the pace for the minimum distance but that extra bit of stamina for the last 89 yards.

Medici Time looks the perfect horse. Most of his best form is over five furlongs, but he needs every yard of it. To be fully effective he needs a strong pace so his extra stamina can kick in. Quite often he is the first off the bridle, but don’t worry as if that happens at York, the extra distance will bring him into play.

This season his results over five furlongs have been 114, with the defeat coming against the smart Medicean Man. He still looks progressive over the distance yet the bookmakers make him an outsider.

He also has the added bonus of Ted Durcan on board; an excellent jockey on horses that need to be held up off the pace. Their record together is 1441. It should be another burn up on the Knavesmire and a former winner at York, Medici Time could score again.
