York Tip: Crystal Capella

Practically unbeatable over this trip when she gets cut in the ground.

With the 1-2-3-4 in the Irish Oaks lining up for a rematch, the first question is whether they will replicate the form. The answer is probably yes but it is not important as they will all be beaten by Crystal Capella. Her record at York is 2/2 but more importantly the conditions underfoot will suit her.

When racing over 1m4 on ground no quicker than good her record is: 112101. That second place was when beaten in a head bob on the line; the other defeat was in the Hong Kong Vase. Conditions at Sha-Tin were probably faster than the official description of good and we can excuse her that run.

Last time out at Goodwood she ran a ‘blinder’ according to trainer Sir Michael Stoute. A drop in trip and quick ground were not ideal, so to get within four lengths of Midday is a great performance. Before that she demolished a good field by 8 lengths at Newmarket. If she repeats that run she should win.
