York Races Tip: Celerina

Winner in three of her four starts at the minimum distance and looks an exciting prospect.

The 3.40 at York is an excellent race that is sure to generate plenty of future winners. During the Dante festival horses drawn high in sprints were advantaged as the field congregated towards the stand’s rail. This was of benefit to our 16/1 winning tip Ancient Cross. Today the pace is drawn low and the stand’s rail looks like the worst place to be.

One horse who has been making a big impression in Ireland is the four year old filly, Celerina. Lightly raced, she has won three of her four starts at five furlongs. Her 100% record would still be intact but for a short head defeat.

She finished 2010 with a fine win in a handicap at Cork. Taking on her battle-hardened elders she was a comfortable two length winner. Her reappearance was on the all weather at Dundalk and she quickly banished fears that she hadn’t trained on. Last off the bridle she just needs pushing out to win the race, with plenty still up her sleeve.

It’s hard to judge her form against the UK batch of sprinters, as the Irish horses she has beaten probably aren’t up to this grade. However, she can only beat what is put in front of her. She gets into the race off a generous mark of 87 and if the race develops on the far side, she could have the perfect draw.
