York Ebor Tip: Saptapadi

york ebor

Bought and trained for this race, with local connections desperate and deserving to hit the big time.

Can I just give you tonight’s lottery numbers? It’s fractionally easier than finding the Ebor winner. Twenty horses, gunning for a first prize of £130,000, it’s competitive stuff.

There can be cases made for several, but I’m going to make just one – for Saptapadi. Unusually it is the ownership that has pointed me to this horse. Part of the ‘Koo’s Racing Club’ syndicate, this is by far their most valuable purchase. Bought for 82,000 gunieas out of Sir Michael Stoute’s yard, the day the cheque was written connections would have had this race in mind.

Trainer Brian Ellison, is one of the North’s most underrated trainers and with the syndicate manager Kristian Strangeway residing in York, this is a Yorkshire plot to win one of their most valuable races.

The horse also has the form in the book. He finished 2.5 lengths behind Twice Over last time out at York. He was hampered that day and would have got closer, to what is now the Juddmonte International champion.

The extra distance will also suit as the horse has placed in Group company at 16 furlongs. Kieren Fallon is booked and everything is primed for a big run.
