York Tips: Dungannon

Record over 5f is 1150 but it could have been four wins if it wasn’t for some poor draws.

Dungannon’s performance at Doncaster was one of the most frustrating moments I’ve experienced in my betting career. Having backed him at big prices, confident of a huge run, Jimmy Fortune inexplicably took his mount to the far rail, even though it was clearly the slowest part of the track. He won his group by 9.5 lengths but finished 16th overall, 10 lengths behind the winner, who raced with the pack near the stand’s rail.

Dungannon’s record over 5f now reads 1150 but his other defeat was also draw related. This time he raced on the wrong side at Ascot, although his jockey can’t be blamed as he was drawn one off the rail.

This afternoon he attempts to recoup some losses in the 1.45 York. Ryan Moore takes the ride for the first time and from a good draw, there is nothing complicated about the tactics.

There is plenty of pace to give him a good lead into the race and if he is fully fit after 176-days off he should go well at 8/1 (William Hill).
