Wolverhampton: Longroom

Couldn't sustain overly strong early pace last week but ran a good speed rating (58) in defeat. He is 1lb lower and more importantly drops down in grade.

Longroom finished a good third when I tipped him up a week ago and i’m happy to go in again, albeit it at a lesser price. The reasons for backing him last week still ring true; he’s got a good strike for a sprinter (6/33), he’s off his lowest mark in two years and he’s well suited by a sharp 5f.

His undoing last week was the pace he set. His finishing speed was 98.5% of his overall speed, which is slower than par and indicative of an overly strong early pace. In defeat he earned a highly respectable adjusted speed rating of 58 and should find things easier this time round.

He is 1lbs lower in the handicap but more importantly he drops down in grade. If Phil Dennis gets a soft lead, or is parsimonious with his charge’s energy then he could improve and win.
