Welsh National Tips: Le Beau Bai

Recent course winner and testing conditions no problem. 12lbs lower than when third in the race in 2009.

Le Beau Bai has been threatening to win a big handicap and the Welsh National (2.10 Chepstow) looks the ideal race for him. The marathon trips of the Midlands and Grand Nationals stretch his stamina but his record over races that range between 28 and 30 furlongs is: 13343U.

The big attraction is his record at Chepstow. The Welsh track has a history of generating course specialists, with the undulating track an acquired taste. Back in 2009 Le Beau Bai finished third in this race, an excellent achievement for a six-year-old. Two years later and a more experienced campaigner he comes into the race off a 12lbs lower mark.

His recent form is good; he won a class two handicap at the start of December, again at Chepstow. The ground is also perfect for the horse with all his wins coming on good to soft ground or softer, with heavy ground no inconvenience.

With conditions to suit and such an excellent course record he looks a solid play at 9/1 with Bet365.
