Trainer Jeff Pearce Disqualified For Three Years

The British Horseracing Authority have warned off 10 people after concluding that Sabre Light didn't run on his merits

The BHA today concluded that trainer Jeff Pearce, former trainer Geoff Huffer and jockey Jerry O’Dwyer conspired to ensure that Sabre Light did not run on its merits. The race in question was the Holly And Ivy Claiming Stakes run at Lingfield on the 17th December 2008 where the 7/2 second favourite finished 5th.

Pearce and Huffer have been disqualified from racing for three and four years respectively meaning that Spoof Master who raced at Kempton tonight is likely to be Jeff Pearce’s last runner. Spoof Master finished 6th.

Jerry O’Dwyer was disqualified for 18 months and it leaves a black mark on a promising jockey’s career. After a high of 36 winners in 2009, O’Dwyer struggled in 2010 with only 9 winners from 205 rides in the UK.

Seven other unlicensed individuals were warned off indefinitely.
