Tests show Kauto Star has low grade infection

Paul Nicholls revealed that Kauto Star has a small infection that might go some way to explaining his defeat.

Following Kauto Star’s surprise defeat in the King George, trainer Paul Nicholls revealed on his twitter page that the horse showed signs of a small infection. Nicholls wrote “Just had Kauto Star’s blood test results. Shows signs of inflammation and low-grade infection. Week’s antibiotics and easy few days. Update on Friday.”

All being well the Gold Cup is very much on the agenda and news of a possible excuse for Kauto Star’s flat run has buoyed his backers with Blue Square trimming his odds for the Gold Cup to 8/1. Come March the 10/1 available for a third Gold Cup triumph might look very big considering Kauto has finished in the top three 23 out of 26 times in his chasing career.
